Here’s how normal marijuana use has gotten: now that it’s legal for recreational use in eight states and the District of Columbia, you can buy marijuana mixed with coffee, tea, or cocoa in a compostable K-Cup. As in: a cup you would use in a Keurig machine.
That’s right: soon your office coffeemaker could be a more effective tool to get you high than your roommate’s gross old bong.
The marijuana retailer Cannabiniers is selling its Brewbudz K-Cups in Nevada dispensaries starting today at $7 a pop, and plans to spread soon to California and Colorado, where legal weed is big business.
It might sound strange to include marijuana with a stimulant like coffee or tea, but Brewbudz has thought this out—its caffeinated drinks use sativa-dominant strains of weed, which are supposed to make you feel more euphoric than drowsy. Their other drinks, like hot cocoa and chamomile tea (the latter of which is still forthcoming), are created with indica-heavy strains—that’s the type of weed that makes you not want to leave your couch.
Like you’d imagine, these weed K-Cups have not been entirely without criticism; BuzzFeed points out that the minimum dose in each of these cups is 10 milligrams of THC, which is not an insignificant amount. “Some inexperienced consumers and people with smaller body types have found 10 milligrams to be too powerful, so those using it for the first time should strongly consider starting with 5 milligrams,” according to the marijuana education website consumeresponsibly.org. But Brewbudz is selling K-Cups with doses up to 50 milligrams of THC. (THC, in case you don’t know, is the chemical in marijuana that makes you feel stoned and groovy.)
But personally, I’m intrigued by Brewbudz’s weird-as-hell Instagram presence, which makes taking marijuana with your coffee look like something every hip lifestyle blogger should start doing:
I mean, they posted a picture of a bunch of donuts without even one munchies joke. I guess ol’ Mary Jane has finally grown up.
